Bees At the Disco
Bees At The Disco, Gouache, 18x24”, 2025
It’s never lost on me that the autonomy I have to paint the themes that I gravitate towards was fought for me by all the women who have come before me. I feel a deep sense of gratitude to them and a responsibility to continue creating in their honor. Most of my paintings are created as a response to my experiences as a woman and I feel in my small way documenting my life and the life of women around me is a form of activism, protest and a way to continue the work laid out from previous generations. My female friendships inspire me to create- I paint them to immortalize them outside of photos and in this portrait I wanted to immortalize the strength, beauty and current loves in my friend Breanna.
