Hello, I’m Juliana and I’m a Colombian American artist based in LA!
My cultural roots are not just important to me — they’re foundational. My art reflects both my history and my philosophy, often beginning with a woman’s story. From there, I find ways to personalize the narrative through my own experiences and visual language.
The vibrancy and warmth of my culture offer more than just a color palette. They ground my work in a sense of place, memory, and contradiction. I’m naturally drawn to bright, bold hues, even when the subject matter comes from a darker emotional space. I’ve come to realize this is less a stylistic decision than a reflection of duality: the way women are expected to remain radiant while enduring the weight of patriarchy, and the way my culture holds both joy and deep conservatism machismo, side by side.
Art has become the space where I place my rage, especially when I feel powerless against the world’s injustices. It’s through painting that I process, protest, and imagine. The ongoing struggles women face, globally and locally, continue to fuel my need to create.
Little about me…
